The Social Impact of IT: Online Shopping, Retail & Grocery.

The Social Impact of IT
Online Shopping, Retail & Grocery.

Shopping on the internet has become very popular in recent years, securing a large share of the retail industry. Since the release of webstores such as eBay, Amazon & iTunes, there has been a huge decline in the highstreet retail industry. Online shopping at present is causing ever increasing damage to the music retail industry, the electronics industry and various other highstreet retail industries apart from clothing and grocery.
Online Grocery Shopping

Even though it has not caused significant damage to their retail stores, online shopping has proven to be a very popular industry for supermarket & grocery chains such as Tesco & Waitrose. Grocery shopping on the web has also brought independence to the disabled who are unable to visit stores. When ordering online, groceries are delivered to ones home at a specified date and time. This perk also helps the disabled in other parts of the online retail industry; however, delivery from other non-grocery retail stores cannot be delivered on the day of purchase as they are usually delivered through the postal system.

Shoppers spent a record £7.66bn online in the ten weeks running up to Christmas in 2007 – a rise of 54% on the same period in 2005.

  3. Haha Anna, you should thank me for all my vegetables however you will have a hard time getting me to share any of them with you. Or any fruit for that matter ether.

Well maybe the odd spinach leaf if I am feeling generous but I would not suggest getting your hopes us.

As for your comment, thank you very much for your reply, it seems the internet is out to change the world for ever. Be it a good thing or a bad thing, I do not know. But it is certainly going to make history.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Simon

  4. Rob, you are correct! I do like shopping for clothes. I especially like shopping for my clothes in French Connection, Harvey Nichols, Levi Strauss Co & Hugo Boss. I do not shop for my clothes anywhere else though or at least not on a regular basis.

I also never go for an extended period of time without new clothing.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Simon

  6. Gareth, Gareth, Gareth, if you were in my college class right now, the teacher would be pointing out all of your spelling mistakes. Then he would put you in a foundation English group which would be full of school dropouts and those with special needs. You need to improve your grammar my friend.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Simon

PS: I am joking, do not worry.
